"Your time has come, now hasten little snowflakes,
To vanish quite away;
The spring-tide hours are sounding gentle warnings
Forbidding you to stay."

Warm thoughts

As we work our way through a very challenging winter, the warm and sunny thoughts of the summer CSA season help to keep us energized. While the farmers are working hard to keep delicate seedlings warm and healthy in the greenhouses, we are working hard to finalize our pick-up sites and times. We wanted to at least let you know of the confirmed sites, and we promise to provide updates of times and additional sites as soon as they are available.

Here is a partial list, with pick-up times yet to be finalized:

Tuesdays -

Lowe's Greenhouse - Bainbridge

Sage's Orchard - Chardon

Catholic Montessori School - Kirtland

Marigold Bed & Breakfast - Chesterland

Healthy Treasures - Newton Falls (This site could be on Tues or Thurs)

St. Andrew - Mentor

Thursdays -

Mustard Seed Market - Solon

Market Café - Downtown Cleveland

LEAF Night - Lakewood

Cuyahoga County Board of Health - Parma

Church of the Good Shepherd - Lyndhurst

Ruffing Montessori School - Cleveland Heights

Saturdays -

St. Noel - Willoughby Hills

Hill's Family Karate - Mentor

St. Paul's Episcopal Church - Cleveland Heights

Corporate sites - for employees only!

Jones Day - Downtown Cleveland

MRI Software - Solon

Tucker Ellis - Downtown Cleveland

You can sign up for a share at any of these sites, here. Please note that the current times listed on our website are not currently reflective of our actual pick-up times. We will let you know as soon as actual times are posted.

We would very much like to find a Saturday location in the Chardon area, as well as a Tuesday afternoon location in the Peninsula or Aurora area. Beyond these specific needs, we're open to other potential sites as well! Our Saturday routes currently have some space. If you know of a church or business that would be interested in hosting a pick-up site, please contact Laura Dobson at

Hosting a site is a great way to be a part of the local food movement, and it brings a lot of people into your location on a weekly basis. There are also potential fundraising opportunities for sites with 50 or more members. We would be happy to meet with any interested parties to discuss the specifics of hosting a pick-up site.

Thank you for supporting local farms.

Warmly,

Michelle Bandy-Zalatoris

Our flyer contest is back!

Print one (or more) of our flyers and post it in your office, a local store, library, etc. Take a picture where you've posted it, and send it to us at MichelleBZ@GeaugaFamilyFarms.org. For each flyer posted, we will enter your name into a drawing for a Farm Store Voucher to use during the season. The more you post, the more chances you have to win. We will hold monthly drawings in March, April and May. You can find our flyer on our website, here.

Grass-fed beef

Remember that you can always get grass-fed beef during the off-season at Geauga Farms Country Meats in Burton. Call ahead if you have specific cuts in mind, and Dave can have your order ready when you get there. Geauga Farms Country Meats is located at 14320 Main Market Road (Route 422), just south of Burton. The phone number is 440-834-8476.

March is a great time to take a scenic drive in the country to pick up fresh maple syrup, local cheese, grass-fed beef and more. The Middlefield and Burton areas have so much to offer! Please remember that many Amish-owned businesses are not open on Sundays.

Local food, farming, environment in the news

We have so many things we'd like to share with you regarding the local food movement and things like the farm bill, the latest news on GMO foods, and much, much more, but we don't want to make our newsletter any longer. Until we get our blog up and running on our website, we are going to include links to articles that you may find interesting. Here are a couple. If you run across any articles you think would be of interest to our members, feel free to send us the link for inclusion here.
